Tom Alberg, Director

Tom Alberg is a Managing Director with the Madrona Venture Group. Mr. Alberg currently serves as a director for Madrona portfolio companies including Mercent, Impinj and Wireless Services. In addition, he serves on the boards of two public technology companies, Advanced Digital Information Corporation and Amazon.com. Mr. Alberg served as President of LIN Broadcasting Corporation and Executive Vice President of McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. prior to co-founding Madrona Investment Group in 1995. Previously, Mr. Alberg was Chairman of the Executive Committee and Partner in the Northwest’s largest law firm, Perkins Coie, and was previously an attorney with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. Mr. Alberg is Chairman of the Washington State Technology Alliance, past Chairman of Discovery Institute, past Chairman of the Pacific Science Center and past President of Intiman Theater in Seattle. He was co-chairman of the capital campaign for the Computer Science Department of the University of Washington. A graduate, cum laude, of Harvard College, Mr. Alberg received his law degree from Columbia Law School where he was an editor of the Law Review.

Eric Best, Chairman

Eric Best is a veteran entrepreneur and experienced manager of strategy, people, and process. Founding MindCorps in 1996, Best created a profitable, high-growth software consultancy that served the Internet and Fortune 500 markets before its acquisition by Amazon.com. Joining Amazon.com, Best managed business development for the Amazon.com Commerce Network, working on the deal team for Amazon's first major brick-and-mortar partnership. Best founded the software product firm Emercis Corporation in 1998 to provide e-commerce infrastructure tools to enterprise businesses. Emercis was acquired by Impressa, Inc. in 2000. Serving as Director of Ubarter.com, Best helped facilitate the sale of the business to Network Commerce in 2000 for $45 million. Best is currently Chairman and CEO of Mercent Corporation. In addition, he serves as chair of Seattle-based Morse Best Innovation, a technical marketing agency serving clients such as Microsoft, Lexmark, and WRQ, and as director of Bellevue-based ITEX, a technology company that provides a business-to-business payment system for non-cash transactions. Best is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University and a member of the SPU Entrepreneurial Studies Council and Society of Fellows.

Steven Hamerslag, Director

Mr. Hamerslag has over 25 years experience starting, growing and leading high technology enterprises. His knowledge of enterprise technology solutions is further leveraged by his extensive sales, marketing and general management experience having started and acted as CEO of two publicly held companies. Prior to joining TVC Capital, Mr. Hamerslag was President and CEO of J2 Global Communications, a provider of communication services. Mr. Hamerslag was instrumental in creating the J2 transformation by combining JFAX.com with EFAX.com and expanding the service offering with web-managed conference calling. In 1987 Mr. Hamerslag founded MTI Technology, a provider of enterprise storage solutions. Revenues grew from $2 million to over $200 million during his tenure with the company. Mr. Hamerslag was recognized as the Ernst and Young, National Entrepreneur of the Year and the Orange County High Technology Entrepreneur of the Year. He is on the board of directors of publicly held Corvel Corporation (CRVL) as well as privately held Digital Map Products. Mr. Hamerslag holds a bachelors degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mike Morford, Director

Mike Morford is the founder and CEO of Altrec.com, a Kirkland, WA-based online retailer since 1999. Altrec.com specializes in selling name brand gear, apparel and accessories for human-powered activities. Prior to starting Altrec.com, Morford founded and served as CEO for Joppa.com, Inc., a business incubator dedicated to designing and developing e-commerce web sites. His previous experience includes roles as the business development manager for Cofano Venture System, helping to locate high-tech start-up ventures and assisting them in becoming more efficient, effective and profitable. Morford holds a B.A. in business from Seattle Pacific University.
